Prepayment Calculator: overview
If you already have a running loan, a part-payment can lower future interest because the principal falls immediately. This prepayment calculator helps you test that effect before you make the payment. You can see a rough idea of interest saved, new balance and revised EMI under the same tenure assumption.
This is especially useful for borrowers who receive bonus income, maturity proceeds or surplus cash and want to decide whether to prepay the loan or use the money elsewhere. A simple estimate can make that decision much easier.
Prepayment Calculator
Enter your current loan balance, rate, remaining months and planned prepayment amount.
Educational estimate only. Actual saving can vary based on lender method, fees and whether EMI or tenure is reduced.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your current outstanding balance.
- Use the annual interest rate and remaining loan months.
- Add the lump-sum amount you plan to prepay.
- Compare current EMI and new EMI estimate under the same tenure.
- Use the interest saving result as a planning reference before requesting lender recalculation.
Formula used
First the calculator estimates the current EMI on the outstanding balance. Then it reduces the balance by the prepayment amount and recalculates the EMI for the same interest rate and remaining tenure.
Examples
Example 1: If outstanding balance is ₹8,00,000 and you prepay ₹1,00,000, your future interest burden may come down because the revised principal becomes ₹7,00,000.
Example 2: At a higher interest rate or longer remaining tenure, the benefit of prepayment can become more visible.
Advantages
- Shows whether part-payment may be worth it
- Helps compare saving vs investing surplus cash
- Highlights revised balance and EMI impact
- Useful before contacting the lender
- Simple and fast planning tool
Frequently asked questions
Can prepayment reduce tenure instead of EMI?
Yes. Many lenders allow either EMI reduction or tenure reduction, and tenure reduction often saves more interest.
Are there prepayment charges?
Some products may have charges or conditions. Always verify with the lender before paying.
Is this result exact?
No. It is an estimate for planning. Final recalculation depends on lender method and loan agreement.
